Police seek driver who fled after striking and killing trucker on the Ohio Turnpike

Published:

Ohio police are hunting for a hit-and-run driver who reportedly fatally struck a semi truck driver who was standing outside of his truck early this morning.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m on Thursday, August 8, on the Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky County, Fox 8 reports.

Police say that 53 year old truck driver Paul William Hurtienne was, for unknown reasons, pulled over on the right shoulder of the westbound Ohio Turnpike near mile marker 95.

The semi truck had hazard lights activated and Hurtienne was standing outside of the vehicle when another westbound vehicle swerved off the roadway, striking and killing him.

Police are now searching for a white straight truck with significant damage to its right side. Ohio State Police say that they aren’t sure whether this truck was involved in the fatal crash, but it was spotted stopped in the area.

Hurtienne was a resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and was the owner at TFG Trucking for more than 30 years.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Milan Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 419-499-4808.
