Report: Lack of truck parking is causing ‘death and injury’

Published:

A Cincinnati news station recently shared a report detailing how dangerous the lack of safe truck parking really is — both for truck drivers and for the public at large.

On Tuesday, May 14, WKRC shared a story entitled “Parked semis could be a danger to your family” that makes the claim that “a lack of semi-truck parking causing death and injury in the Tri-State.”

The report details what most truck drivers already know — that pressure from new ELD regulations is forcing truckers onto highway ramps after truck stops fill up for the night. WKRC says that trucks parked on the ramps have led to recent crashes: “Three times in the past six months in the Tri-State, cars rear-ended semis parked on off-ramps.”

While some state officials see apps that alert drivers to available parking as a possible way to fix the problem, WKRC concludes that the only good solution is to spend more money to create more truck parking.
