‘River of chocolate’ spills onto interstate after tanker truck accident

Arizona transportation officials say that all lanes have reopened.

Arizona authorities had to do some “sweet cleanup” after a tanker truck crashed and spilled thousands of gallons of liquid chocolate on on the interstate today.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Monday, January 14, on I-40 east of Flagstaff, Arizona, according to ABC 15.

Authorities say that a tanker truck hauling liquid chocolate was traveling westbound on I-40 at mile marker 211 when the truck rolled over, spilling the gooey contents of the tanker all over the roadway.

In a tweet about the crash, the Arizona Department of Public Safety described a “river of chocolate blocking/flowing in the westbound lanes of I-40.”

No injuries have been reported.

All westbound lanes of I-40 were closed as crews work to clear the chocolate-y mess, but the Arizona Department of Transportation reported that all lanes had reopened by 2:15 p.m.

The cause of the tanker rollover remains under investigation.
