Semi truck strikes overpass, leaving gigantic tank in the street

Published:

Missouri transportation officials dealt with a major headache this morning when a truck transporting a large tank struck an overpass.

The incident happened during the morning rush hour on Friday, September 6, in Kearney, Missouri.

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says that a tractor trailer hauling a large, empty tank on eastbound Highway 92 struck the I-35 overpass, causing the tank to fall off of the truck into the roadway.

In images tweeted out by MoDOT, the overpass is marked at 14’6″.

MoDOT brought in bridge inspectors to examine the overpass for structural damage.

The Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District says that “Currently Eastbound 92 from N. Country Ave to I-35 is closed. You will not be able to go south on I-35 from this intersection.”

You can follow MoDOT on Twitter for the latest road closure information.
