These charges stem from a March 25 crash that claimed the life of 45 year old truck driver Steven Sylvester. Orange Police say that following the crash, there was “a lengthy investigation by the department’s accident reconstruction team.”

Police say that Sylvester had delivered a piece of construction equipment on westbound Route 34 (also known as Derby Avenue) and was standing outside of his vehicle when the crash occurred.

From an Orange Police Department news release: “It appears that a vehicle being driven by the 79-year-old female was traveling westbound on Derby Avenue when it drifted off the right side of the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a 45-year old male, who was standing to the rear of his flatbed tractor-trailer truck.” Rubin’s vehicle also crashed into another passenger vehicle after hitting the truck.

Sylvester was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Rubin was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Rubin was released from custody on a $25,000 non-surety bond. She is due back in court on September 30.
