State police investigate truck driver death on interstate shoulder

Published:

Virginia State Police (VSP) say that they are investigating the death of a semi truck driver along I-95 this morning.

Around 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, VSP responded to a semi truck parked on the right shoulder of southbound I-95 near Ashland, Virginia, according to a report from WTVR.

Troopers say that they are investigating the incident as an “unattended death” and they believe that the truck driver took his own life inside the truck.

Investigators say that the driver’s death does not appear to be suspicious in nature.

The identity of the truck driver has not yet been released.

The interstate was partially shut down for hours as police investigated the incident. Traffic backups of seven miles long were reported. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced shortly after 3 p.m. that all lanes of the interstate had reopened.

This is a developing story and remains under investigation.
