Trooper killed after losing control, hitting two semi trucks

A Tennessee trooper lost his life yesterday after losing control of his cruiser and colliding with two semi trucks.

The incident took place just before 4 p.m. on Monday, May 7, on I-40 near Jackson, Tennessee, according to Fox 13.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says that 24 year old Trooper Matthew Gatti was on his way to respond to a call on eastbound I-40 near mile marker 74 when he lost control of his vehicle. His cruiser went sideways and hit one semi truck. The cruiser then spun out and collided with a second semi truck.

Gatti did not survive the crash.

No other major injuries were reported.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol released a statement following Gatti’s death:

“Our hearts are filled with much grief and sadness. The family of Trooper Gatti is in our deepest thoughts and prayers. Please keep Trooper Gatti, his family and friends in your hearts and prayers.”

The interstate was shut down for hours for investigation and clean up of the crash, but finally reopened late Monday night.

The incident remains under investigation.
