The New Hampshire State Police announced that they’re collaborating with a local trucking company to nab distracted drivers next week.
New Hampshire State Police announced that they’ll be conducting a “high-visibility enforcement” campaign from September 21 — 27.
Troopers say that they’ve chosen this week in part because the most dangerous time for crashes on New Hampshire roadways is the period between Columbus Day and Thanksgiving.
Troopers say that they are teaming up with drivers from New Hampshire trucking company Ross Express to catch distracted drivers in the act. The NH Office of Highway Safety and the New Hampshire Motor Transport Association are also partnering in the enforcement effort.
A distracted driving ticket is $124 in New Hampshire.
New Hampshire is just the latest state to test out “Trooper in a Truck” tactics to catch distracted drivers.
Police in other states like Nebraska, Illinois, and Kentucky, have used truck ride-alongs as a tool to catch texting drivers for years. Tennessee troopers even has their own custom Peterbilt that they use in distracted driving details. The Florida Highway Patrol also has a custom semi truck that they use for various enforcement activities.
