Indiana State Police say that they were able to tickets dozens of drivers today thanks to a trooper perched in a semi truck who was able to spot violations that normally go unnoticed by officers in cruisers.
On Tuesday, July 16, Indiana trooper conducted a major “Trooper In A Truck” detail on I-70 and I-465 in Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Star.
During the detail, Indiana State Police Lt. Tyler Utterback rode in a semi truck dubbed a “ghost truck”, looking for dangerous driving behaviors like texting and then relaying the necessary information to other troopers in marked police vehicles, who could then pull over the driver.
During the three hour detail, troopers issued 43 citations and an additional 40 warnings.
Trooper John Perrine warned Indianapolis drivers, “Every time you see a semi truck, I want you to assume there’s an Indiana State Trooper sitting in the passenger seat prepared to call you out if you’re driving aggressively.”
