Truck Driver Arrested After Driving Into Inn

Published:

Tennessee police say that they have issued charges against a truck driver following a destructive series of events that took place at a motel on Sunday.

Police were called to the Rodeway Inn in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee, on Sunday, August 18, around 4:30 a.m. for reports of a semi truck running amok and causing destruction.

When police arrived on the scene, they found serious structural damage to the motel allegedly caused by 34 year old Florida-based truck driver Raul Medina.

Knoxville police say that Medina told them that he was tired and searching for a place to park when he struck the motel canopy, panicked, and backed up and pulled forward again. This caused the canopy to collapse.

“He hit the pole, went over the rock garden, hit two vehicles, continued, made the turn and then hit the hotel. He took out columns, crashed the roof and kept on going,” hotel guest Gene Pauldine told local news outlet WJHL.

“Next thing I know, I wake up and I’m in a Garth Brooks song. It’s ‘Papa Loved Mama’ and his car is one of the cars that got hit,” explained motel guest Troy Geiser.

The incident frightened motel guests, but no one was hurt.

Police later charged Medina with DUI.
