Published:

A semi truck driver caught on dash cam performing a reckless driving maneuver was fired after the video was shared with transportation officials and his employer.

The incident was caught on camera on Saturday, August 10, near Salmon Arm, B.C.

In the video, the dash cammer is eastbound on Highway 1 when another truck driver, also eastbound, decided to cross the double yellow lines to pass him, in spite of a road sign that indicates that the two eastbound lanes will merge into one.

The maneuver bring the passing truck uncomfortably close to a third semi truck in the westbound lanes.

The dash cammer shared the video on social media, tagging the B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation.

The video also made its way into the hands of the passing driver’s employer, Stryder Motorfreight.

Stryder later responded to the video in a Tweet:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention Graham, we have identified the driver in the video and taken him out of service – he will never drive for us again. We apologize to everyone affected by this misconduct as it is not reflective of our company’s values or safety policy.

The B.C Ministry of Transportation also said that they would forward the video to the British Columbia Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement to determine if follow-up action is required.
