Truck driver found dead in burning semi in grocery store lot

South Dakota authorities have so far released few details about the death of a truck driver who was found in the cab of his burning truck on Wednesday morning.

Authorities in Lemmon, South Dakota, responded to reports of a truck fire at 5:31 a.m. on October 30, according to a news release shared by the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office.

When crews arrived at the Lemmon IGA grocery store, they found a “semi tractor fully engulfed in flames, heavy smoke and major damage to the cab of the truck.”

Firefighters extinguished the truck fire.

During recovery efforts, responders found the body of a male inside the cab of the truck.

Police say that the man’s identity has not yet been confirmed and will not be released until family members have been notified.

Multiple agencies are investigating the fire including the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office.
