A veteran trucker was recently honored for the remarkable accomplishment of driving nearly four and a half million miles without an accident.
On January 25, 74 year old truck driver Arthur “Art” Stoen was named the 2018 Minnesota Driver of the Year by the Minnesota Trucking Association (MTA).
Stoen, who hauls for Kane Transport, has driven for 55 years without an accident and has over 4.4 million safe miles under his belt.
John Hausladen, MTA president, said, “This award is a great way to honor the best in our industry. Driving safe is no easy task, especially when you take into consideration his daily driving conditions like congestion, driver distractions and Minnesota winters. Having 4.4 million safe driving miles is an astonishing accomplishment, especially given the unique challenge of safely delivering and unloading diesel and gasoline without incident. We’re proud to award Art for this outstanding achievement.”
Stoen says that he retired for two years but missed trucking so he went back to work.
Stoen’s advice for other drivers? “Keep watching all the time. Don’t hurry, just do the speed limit. You can see way ahead if lights are braking,” he said.
