Police search for answers after two truck drivers lose their lives in head on collision

Another truck driver was close behind and captured the terrifying incident on his dash cam.

Two truck drivers were killed in New Mexico yesterday when a semi truck crossed the median and hit another truck head on.

The incident happened just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, on I-40 west of Albuquerque, New Mexico near the Route 66 Casino, according to KOAT.

Police say that one semi truck crossed the median of the interstate and went into oncoming traffic, colliding head on with another semi truck.

I-40 Crash

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Neither truck driver survived the crash.

The incident left I-40 covered in debris and left both of the trucks mangled.

Truck driver Sam Danielyan was traveling behind one of the trucks on I-40 at the time of the crash and caught the tragic incident on his dash cam, which he says is always rolling.

“I sent that video to my wife and I kind of regret it because she was crying for about two hours. I definitely do feel blessed,” he said.

Danielyan says he immediately stopped his truck and ran to help the other drivers after witnessing the collision.

The incident shut down I-40 in both directions for hours yesterday, causing massive traffic backups. All lanes have since reopened.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
