Washington state troopers have confirmed that a truck driver lost his life today while attempting to make roadside repairs to his truck.
The incident happened on the morning of Wednesday, July 31, on I-5 in Tacoma, Washington.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Johnna Batiste reports that the truck driver was pulled over on the shoulder of northbound I-5 near mile maker 133 when the fatal accident occurred.
Batiste tweeted: “Witnesses indicate that a semi truck was pulled to the right shoulder with the driver outside and appeared to be making repairs to the vehicle when it started moving again. The driver was sadly struck by the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.”
The News Tribune reports that a passerby was able to get into the truck and stop it before it rolled into traffic on I-5.
Batiste called the fatality incident “heartbreaking.”
The identity of the truck driver has not been released.
The incident is still under investigation.
