Truck driver wins $300 million, quits job same day

Published:

A New York man says that he is trading in his truck for a red Porsche after winning a nearly $300 million lottery jackpot.

On Friday, January 25, it was announced that Brooklyn-based truck driver Dave Johnson, 56, was the sole winner of a $298 million New York Powerball jackpot, according to NBC Chicago.

Johnson says that he purchased the ticket the day after Christmas when he forced himself to go to work driving for Iberia Foods even though he was sick. As he started his day by stopping in at his favorite fueling station, the Arnold Service Station, to fill up his truck, he bought a five dollar Powerball ticket on a whim.

Later, Johnson was so sick that he could not watch the drawing and he missed work the next day.

It wasn’t until a couple of days later when a friend mentioned that the winning ticket had been sold at the Arnold Service Station that Johnson frequented that he went back to that gas station to check the ticket.
