Published:

A truck driver who has recently been issued dozens of felony charges for a fatal pileup crash has spoken out to thank those who have supported and defended him.

On Friday, May 3, 23 year old truck driver Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos was charged with 40 counts — most of them felonies — for his role in a 28 vehicle pileup crash on I-70 near Lakewood, Colorado, that killed four men.

While prosecutors have accused Aguilera-Mederos of “operating the vehicle under circumstances where he was exhibiting extreme indifference to the value of human life,” the truck driver has maintained that he is innocent of wrongdoing in the crash. His family members have also told members of the media that brake failure was to blame for the crash.

Before formal charges were filed, Aguilera-Mederos issued a statement to the public via a Facebook post from wife Nailan Gonzalez. In the post, Aguilera-Mederos thanked the public for supporting him.

“…god is with me, this is not what they are doing to me, but I never thought that I would have a world out there supporting me, I never imagined that there were so many people defending me, at the moment my best lawyers have been all that have given me that great support, and those who have and continue to pray for me, I leave so much to be able to give those thanks that there is nothing to pay for everything they have done, I truly feel too grateful, without their support none of this is make possible”

A Go Fund Me campaign was set up to help raise bail money for Aguilera-Mederos in the wake of the crash. KDVR reports that the campaign raised more than $120,000 to pay for bail and family expenses.
