Original Report———————————————————————————————

Colorado police say that a semi truck driver has been arrested and could face serious felony charges following a multiple fatality crash that happened near Denver yesterday.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, in Lakewood, Colorado, according to CBS News.

Police say that the crash happened on I-70 during a traffic jam. According to reports, a semi truck traveling downhill failed to stop for the slowed traffic and crashed into several vehicles, causing a pileup crash that ultimately involved at least 24 passenger vehicles and 4 semi trucks.

The pileup crash immediately sparked a massive fire that produced thick black smoke that was visible for miles.

Authorities say that multiple people were killed in the crash but they have not released the exact number of people or their identities as of 9:30 a.m.

Six people including the semi truck driver who caused the crash were taken to the hospital for treatment of various injuries.

The semi truck driver has been taken into police custody and has been facing the possibility of multiple charges of vehicular homicide. Drugs and alcohol are not thought to be a factor in the crash at this time. Police say that they are looking at the remains of the driver’s truck to determine whether the brakes were functioning properly.

I-70 remains closed in both directions until further notice as crews work to clean up the crash aftermath. The eastbound lanes of I-70 could remain closed through tomorrow as crews assess the damage caused by the fire. Lakewood Police Department agent Ty Countryman said, “It is true carnage there as far as the debris, what’s left of cars and trucks, along with the cargoes that were in the semis.”

A YouTuber live streaming himself during the traffic jam just before the fatal pileup caught footage of a fast-moving semi truck that became involved in the crash.

Another social media user shared dash cam footage of an out of control semi truck that he says that he filmed just before the I-70 pileup.

This is the truck from 1-70 accident.
