North Carolina police are investigating the death of a truck driver who was found lying on the ground beside his truck in a parking lot earlier this week.

Police say that the shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24, at the Hardee’s restaurant at 100 Lawrenceville Road in Gaston, North Carolina.

Officers responded to the scene after at least one gunshot was fired.

When police arrived on scene, they found the body of 67 year old truck driver Robert Pane Hale lying on the ground in the parking lot between his personal vehicle and his semi truck.

Hale worked for Wilson, North Carolina-based trucking company Barnes Transportation.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Gaston police Chief C.L. Dixon told local news outlet RRSpin that he doesn’t believe that Hale was robbed. “All his personal belongings were accounted for as far as we know,” he said.

The Hardee’s was closed at the time of the shooting. Police are looking for video or witnesses to the crime.

If you have information on the shooting, you’re asked to call the Gaston Police Department 252-537-1047.
