Trucker shot and killed after stopping for motorist

Published:

A truck driver was shot and killed on Thursday morning, April 18th, after pulling over on the side of Interstate 20.

According to KTXS-TV, 56-year-old California-based truck driver Noppol Pantiyanurak was traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 near Westbrook, Texas, when a car began flashing its lights from behind.

The truck driver pulled over onto the side of the interstate, after noticing the car repeatedly flashing its lights.

After leaving his vehicle, Pantiyanurak was shot from behind and died at the scene. His driving partner was also shot, and was rushed to Hendrick Medical Center, where he is expected to recover.

Texas troopers arrested 20-year-old suspect Brandon Christopher Madrid at the scene. He has been charged with murder, aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and is being held on $700,000 bond.

Texas DPS says that a motive for the shooting is unclear, and it’s likely that
Pantiyanurak never knew what hit him.

The incident remains under investigation.
