Truckers convoy to support girl who underwent heart surgery

Published:

This week, a group of Walmart truck drivers came together to honor a child who recently underwent open-heart surgery with a convoy and a celebration.

On July 16, five year old Charleston, Illinois, resident Lyndsey Grubb underwent open heart surgery to correct an atrial septal defect (basically, a hole in her heart) at OSF Children’s Hospital in Peoria.

Grubb came out of the serious surgery successfully, and as her story spread, Walmart truck drivers Tom Dees, Rodney Morgan, and Richard Newman, came together to organize a convoy in her honor as part of the Walmart Heart program, according to JG-TC.com. Newman acted as Grubbs driver during the convoy.

The convoy took on Tuesday, August 6, at the Mattoon, Illinois, Walmart store and travelled to the Charleston, Illinois, Walmart location. In addition to Walmart trucks, police and fire vehicles, the Coles County Truck Convoy charity group, and motorcyclists with the Spiritual Disciples Motorcycle Ministry took part in the convoy.

Grubb was named an honorary Walmart truck driver and received numerous gifts and donations from the participants.

The Walmart Heart program is a charity program designed to uplift the spirits of seriously ill children.

Coles County Truck Convoy leader Joy Eggers shared heartwarming photos of the convoy and celebratory activities on Facebook.

So blessed to be involved with Walmart Heart ❤️ Program today
This morning. Coles County Truck Convoy made this little girl Lyndsey Grubbs squeal out loud “Jo-Jo” when Gina, Scott Angela and Sid Eggersand I walked thru the door and gave her a Jo-Jo bedding set complete with fuzzy throw and Jo-Jo Unicorn.
She got gifts from Wal-Mart, and other gift cards from drivers. Even had a balloon launch for her. Hoping to hear good results from that.
CCTC was so happy to love on this little girl.

Check out some photos from Grubbs’ special day below.
