Truckers ‘slow roll’ through Chicago despite warnings from state police

A group of truckers who are protesting regulations in the trucking industry are ‘slow rolling’ in Chicago in spite of the fact that they’ve been issued a stern warning by state police.

For months, a group of truckers with the group Black Smoke Matters have been planning protest activities culminating with a major shut down activity starting on April 12. The drivers are protesting numerous issues in the trucking industry including driver training standards, the ELD mandate, Hours of Service regulations, and parking problems.

As part of the protest activities, Black Smoke Matters organized a ‘slow roll’ for the Chicago area on the morning of April 12. The drivers are leaving from Monee at 10 a.m. then traveling on the Tri-State Tollway to downtown Chicago before returning to Monee.

Illinois State Police were made aware of the planned protest and issued the drivers a severe warning that they would be held responsible if their activities led to traffic accidents.
