Two killed in multiple semi truck crash that shut down interstate

North Carolina transportation officials say that multiple semi trucks were involved in a serious pileup crash that claimed the lives of at least two people this afternoon.

The crash happened early on the afternoon of Thursday, March 28, on northbound I-77 near mile marker 73, in Yadkin County, North Carolina, according to a report from WXII12.

Police say that three semi trucks and a pickup were involved in the pileup crash.

Troopers confirmed that two people lost their lives. It isn’t clear whether there were any other injuries as a result of the crash.

If you’re headed on 77, there’s a bad wreck. Right close to exit 79.

All lanes of northbound I-77 are shut down for the crash, causing a massive traffic backup. There is no word yet on when the interstate will reopen.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
