Self Driving Tampa

Check out live video of an autonomous truck driving test that took place in Tampa, Florida.

On the morning of Monday, May 13, Starsky Robotics tested out self driving truck technology on the elevated reversible lanes of the Selmon Expressway. The company said that a truck driver is on hand in case something went wrong.

The event was covered by several news stations across the country, but most of them gave up on their live coverage of the event after the truck didn’t move for about an hour. Cameras finally captured the truck moving a short distance before coming to a stop again.

A representative from Starsky Robotics reached out to CDLLife to explain that the test went as planned. “We are very excited to partner with THEA and the state of Florida to test our system and bring self-driving trucks to the roads. The testing that Starsky Robotics is doing this week on a closed road in Tampa is the emergency behavior testing. In other words, we are testing truck behavior in case of a system failure. That is why while you are watching a live streaming, you should expect our truck to stop pretty often because this is part of the test,” said Stefan Seltz-Axmacher, Starsky Robotics founder and CEO

Testing of the self-driving truck technology on the Selmon Expressway will continue through Wednesday, according to WFLA.
