Wrong way U-Haul driver causes fiery fatal crash with semi

Published:

Nevada police say that both directions of a highway are closed until further notice following a fatal crash involving a semi truck and a wrong way driver.

The crash occurred around 3 a.m. on US-93 at I-11 near Boulder City, Nevada, according to KTNV.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says that a woman coming from Arizona was driving a U-Haul the wrong way on US-93 when she struck a UPS truck hauling double trailers head on.

Both the U-Haul and the semi truck were fully engulfed in flames after the crash.

The U-Haul driver did not survive the crash.

The semi truck driver was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say that the crash caused a large diesel fuel spill that will require extensive cleanup.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says that both directions of US-93 are closed with no estimated time to reopen. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police say that they received several calls about the wrong way driver in the moments leading up to the fatal crash.
