Officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized a massive quantity of alleged methamphetamine from a commercial vehicle crossing the border from Mexico into the U.S.
The drug bust was made on Tuesday, May 12, at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas.
A tractor trailer hauling a shipment of plastic floor panels was stopped by officers at the cargo facility for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection.
During the inspection, officers found 557 pounds of suspected methamphetamine hidden in the floor panels shipment.
The estimated street value of the drugs is $11,145,575.
CBP seized the methamphetamine and turned the case over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) for further investigation.
“Even though anti-terrorism is our primary mission, CBP officers maintain their vigilance to ensure commercial entries are safe and free of contraband,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.
