35,000 Peterbilts recalled for defect that could cause truck to catch fire

Tens of thousands of Peterbilt trucks are affected by a recall for a defect that could cause an electrical short circuit and a fire.

PACCAR will recall certain 2015-2020 Peterbilt 365, 389, 567, and 579 vehicles that are equipped with a left-hand under hood jumper terminal.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents, “The positive battery jumper terminal cable may be too long, allowing it to chafe against the left front suspension spring and result in an electrical short circuit.” This, in turn, increases the risk of a fire.

The recall affects 35,671 trucks.

PACCAR will begin contacting truck owners about the recall on May 1, 2020. Dealerships will inspect the battery jumper terminal cables and provide free repairs if needed.

If you have questions about the recall, truck owners may call PACCAR customer service at 1-940-591-4220 and reference recall number 20PBA.
