$50K reward offered for tips on murder of truck stop ministry couple

Published:

Thanks to a podcast, new tips are coming in on a nearly decade-old unsolved murder case involving two prominent figures in the truck stop ministry scene.

Last month, true crime podcast “Just the Tip-Sters” examined the May 29, 2011, murders of Bill and Peggy Stephenson, both 74, in their home in Boone County, Kentucky.

The Stephensons were well known in the Kentucky trucking community for their Trucker’s Chapel service at a TA truck stop location in Florence, meant to give truckers who couldn’t make it to church on Sunday a place to worship.

The podcast featured an interview with lead detective Coy Cox, who revealed that the killer or killers “staged” the bodies after the murders, placing odd items from around the house near or on the bodies.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says that after the podcast aired, they started receiving new tips on the case.

Cox says that he believes that the case can be solved.

The Stephenson family is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

If you have any information on the murders, you are urged to contact the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at [email protected].
