U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 53 undocumented immigrants found in a refrigerated trailer at a Texas checkpoint.
The incident occurred late during the evening of August 5, when a tractor hauling a trailer approached the I-35 checkpoint north of Laredo. A service canine alerted authorities to the trailer and a search was conducted.
During the search, 53 illegal immigrants were discovered in the trailer according to U.S Customs and Border Protection’s press release.
All of the individuals were illegally present in the United States and from the countries of Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
All individuals, as well as the driver, a U.S citizen, were taken into custody.
