The Brent Spence Bridge is on track to open just before Christmas, officials announced on Wednesday.
The Brent Spence Bridge was closed to traffic on November 11th after a crash involving a semi truck hauling hazmat sparked an enormous fire that left the bridge severely damaged and endangered many people’s lives.
“We’re now past the midpoint of this project to repair and reopen the Brent Spence Bridge,” Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Jim Gray announced in a December 9th press conference, attributing the punctual completion to good weather conditions and the hard work of construction crews.

“Major visible progress to restore the affected upper deck starts tomorrow when contractors pour a new layer of concrete. We’ll be going from construction to completion in the next two weeks.”
Gray advised travelers that one lane of I-71/I-75 northbound is still open to traffic and said that semi trucks are now permitted to use this route as long as they are making a local delivery.
