Two were killed in a string of crashes that started with a broken-down motorist in Michigan on Thursday.
The accidents occurred on December 10th in Allegan County, Michigan on Highway 131.
According to MLive, at around 11:45 a.m., 43-year-old motorist, Robert Edward-Lee Crim IV, pulled over onto the shoulder of 131 northbound near the Shelbyville exit. He was apparently working on his vehicle when he stepped out into a lane of traffic and was hit by an oncoming semi truck. He was pronounced dead on scene.
The wreck caused traffic backups, which led to another collision between a pickup truck and three stopped vehicles, killing 55-year-old Sharon Renee McSawby, who was a passenger inside of one of the stopped vehicles.
A short time later, backups caused by the two previous wrecks led to another collision between two semi trucks and a pickup. In this third incident, a semi truck was slowing for traffic near the Martin Township with a pickup following close behind when a second semi truck failed to slow. The second rig crashed into the pickup, pushing it into the first semi truck and sending the two vehicles into a roadside ditch.
Luckily, the truckers were transported to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries, and the pickup driver was treated on scene with minor injuries.
Police are still investigating.
