Canadian truckers call out Americans for ‘living normal lives’ amid Covid

Published:

Some Canadian truck drivers are calling out Americans for resuming “normal life.”

According to a recent CBC article, many Canadians want Canada to keep the border closed because they feel that American’s aren’t taking enough precautions to fight the spread of Covid.

“They’re travelling down there. They don’t wear masks,” said Leanne Steeves, a truck driver from Barrie, Ont., told CBC. “It’s like they don’t care. Life is normal. Nothing’s changed for them.”

The US-Canada border was scheduled to open back on July 21; however, with the “surge of cases in America,” Canadian leaders have extended the closure for non-essential travel until August 30. Some have indicated that the border may be closed to travel until the new year.

“I’m praying they don’t open the borders. That would just make everything up here that much worse … They need to protect our country,” Steeves told CBC.

Another Canadian truck driver, Jeff Henderson, shared Steeves sentiments. He recently posted a video to social media describing what he’s seeing in the United States.

“I’m praying they don’t open the borders. That would just make everything up here that much worse … They need to protect our country,” Henderson told CBC, “Nobody cares, and it’s dangerous — very dangerous,” he said.

Henderson told CBC that he will be turning down all loads to the US until better and safer practices are in place.
