Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection say that they made a massive drug bust at a Texas cargo facility.
The drug bust occurred on December 19 at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility in Pharr, Texas.
Officers referred a truck driver hauling a commercial load of tomatoes for a secondary inspection.
Through the use of non-intrusive imaging technology, officers were able to discover 657 packages weighing 1,853 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the trailer’s floor.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs $37,000,000.
“This interception of methamphetamines is certainly on the list of the more significant drug seizures for the Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas and will definitely impact this type of illicit activity,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez.
CBP called the drug bust “colossal” and said that the drug seizure “struck a blow on narcotics smuggling organizations.”
