Collison with train leaves tractor on one side of the tracks, trailer on the other

Published:

A collision with a train split a grain truck completely in half in Illinois earlier this week.

The accident happened on Tuesday, October 6th in Union County, Illinois.

According to KFVS News, the truck was attempting to cross at a private railroad crossing near Foster Loop Road and Route 3 when the collision occurred, leaving the cab of the truck on one side of the tracks and the trailer on the other.

Troopers speculate that the 24-year-old-truck driver, Devin Salyers, underestimated how long it would take the truck to get going and cross the tracks with a fully loaded trailer. Salyers told officers that he was unable to see the oncoming train clearly due to trees that obscured the view.

Luckily, no one was injured in the crash.

There is a stop sign at the railroad crossing, but no lights or crossing arms. Salyers has since been cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.
