Crash leaves truck and trailer teetering atop opposite sides of bridge

Published:

A violent crash dismantled a semi truck and left it poised to plunge off a West Virginia bridge this morning.

The crash occurred on the I-64 bridge between Dunbar and South Charleston, West Virginia around 11 a.m. on May 20.

Authorities say that the single vehicle crash occurred in the westbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 53.

Following the crash, the truck came to a stop with part of the cab hanging off of one side of the bridge and the trailer partially hanging off the other.

There is no official word on injuries at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but local news outlet WV Metro News reports that it was raining at the time of the crash.

The crash closed westbound I-64 for hours, but all lanes have since reopened.

This is a developing story.
