Driver-first culture lands Illinois trucking company “Best Fleet For Drivers” award

A trucking tech company recently recognized an innovative Illinois-based carrier as the best U.S. fleet for drivers to work for.

Trucking company GP Transco was awarded “Best Fleet For Drivers” by tech company Samsara as part of the 2020 Top Fleet Awards.

GP Transco beat out other finalists Carter Logistics and Rock Solid Stabilization & Reclamation, Inc. to take home the award.

Samsara points to GP Transco’s dedication to “elevating the driver experience” as a reason for both the award and the company’s low turnover rate.

“Last year, GP Transco launched a program to reward the top 50% of drivers with a monetary bonus each month based on their fuel efficiency. The company was able to save 205,000 gallons of fuel—the equivalent of $350,000—to help fund the bonus program,” said Samsara in a July 20 company blog post announcing the award winners.

Additionally, GP Transco implemented a new policy based on driver feedback to improve safety, Samsara says. After listening to driver requests, GP Transco put a rule in place that requires dispatchers to confirm that a driver is using a hands-free device before beginning a phone conversation.

“At GP Transco, the driver is treated as the customer and the results of this approach have a strong ripple effect,” Samsara wrote.

GP Transco was also recently recognized by Smart-Trucking.com for being the 3rd highest paying carrier in the U.S. according to the website truckdriverssalary.com, ranking only behind Walmart and Sysco — making GP Transco the highest paying non-private fleet trucking company on this list in 2019.

GP Transco is an established mid-size carrier providing dry van freight transportation and logistics services throughout the U.S. and Canada. You can click here to learn how to join their growing team of company drivers and owner-operators.
