Driver successfully detaches flaming trailer before cab can ignite

Published:

A truck driver was able to detach a flaming trailer from his tractor in Utah early Friday morning, preventing major damage to the cab and potentially himself.

The fire erupted at half past midnight on October 23rd in Farmington, Utah.

According to ABC 4 News, the truck was hauling frozen food along Interstate 15 south near Park Lane when the driver noticed the trailer was on fire.

Luckily, the unnamed truck driver was able to pull over and detach the trailer, saving the cab and himself from potentially serious damage.

Investigators say they believe the fire stemmed from mechanical issues, KUTV News reports.

Crews spent nine hours cutting the trailer into pieces and scooping up the burnt food before loading the debris into a dump truck and hauling it away.

Vehicles were forced to detour off the highway until the job was finished just before 11 a.m.
