Recently released video features a nerve-wracking rescue that came after a truck driver partially crashed off a Virginia bridge earlier this year.
The video was recently released as part of A&E’s “Rescue Cam” television series.
The terrifying crash occurred back in April 13 on the High Rise Bridge in Chesapeake, Virginia, after a truck traveling westbound on I-64 jackknifed and partially crashed off of the bridge, coming to a stop with the driver still inside the cab dangling off the side of the bridge.
With help from the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Norfolk Fire-Rescue, and Virginia State Police, a wrecker was brought in to stabilize the truck.
After the truck was stabilized, a technician was lowered down with a rope to harness the truck driver and lift him to safety.
The Chesapeake Fire Department points out that the rescue was performed “70 feet above the Elizabeth River as severe thunderstorms pushed through the area.”
