Former ‘Ice Road Trucker’ sentenced for building explosion

Published:

A driver who formerly appeared on a popular trucking reality television series was sentenced this week on arson charges.

Arthur Burke, who appeared on the History Channel television series “Ice Road Truckers” for five seasons, was sentenced on Wednesday to 18 months of house arrest after he pled guilty to a charge of arson by negligence.

Burke, a Prince Edward Island resident, will reportedly be allowed to continue to serve the house arrest sentence from the cab of his truck, which will allow him to continue working.

Burke was charged following a November 2018 incident during which he caused a major explosion at his apartment in Yellowknife while trying to make “shatter” — a concentrated cannabis substance made with butane.

According to CBC, the explosion caused more than $60,000 in damages and sent Burke to the hospital for nearly two weeks.
