High wind wreaked havoc on truckers in Illinois

Severe weather gave truckers a tough time in Illinois on Wednesday as several semis were blown over.

On April 8, wind gusts in excess of 60 m.p.h. ripped through central Illinois, downing power lines and toppling semi trucks.

At least five trucks were blown over on I-70 at mile markers 100, 108, 122, 133, and 137. Illinois State Police say that all five truck drivers were taken to the hospital — four for treatment of minor injuries and one for treatment of injuries of unknown severity.

Illinois troopers reported that another three semi trucks were blown over on I-55 between mile marker 117 and 123, north of Elkhart and south of Lincoln.

Illinois State Police reported two trucks blown over on southbound I-57 at mile marker 293 near Ashkum.

The video below was captured by storm chasers near Arcola on I-57 southbound. In the video, you can see multiple toppled trucks. Storm chasers say that one driver was treated for minor injuries.
