The eastbound lanes of I-40 in Knoxville, Tennessee have been shut down due to a “crash involving multiple tractor trailers,” the Knoxville Police Department Tweeted.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:16 am on Monday morning in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at the I-640 split, MM 393.
One lane of westbound I-40 is also blocked by emergency vehicles. Traffic is being detoured to I-640 west.
At this time, it is unclear how long the eastbound lanes will be shut down.
At approximately 7:30 am, CST, Mark Nagi, Community Relations Officer for the Tennessee Department of Transportation – Region 1, Tweeted “All wrecked commercial vehicles have been towed away. Work continues on the spilled load and destroyed trailers. Cargo was approximately 48,000 pounds of powdered sugar.”
