The Colorado State Patrol has closed portions of I-70 after crashes occurred on the snow-slicked interstate.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, November 9, the Colorado State Patrol announced the closure of I-70 westbound at mile marker 215 near the Eisenhower Tunnel “due to multiple crashes.”
Troopers say that a semi traveling westbound on I-70 lost control and crashed through the guardrail into the eastbound lanes of the interstate. At least one other vehicle reportedly crashed as a result of the semi truck crash.
Images shared by Colorado troopers show a semi truck with the trailer overturned and a large number of boxes spilled out onto the roadway.
Local news outlets report that the truck driver was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Eastbound I-70 is also closed near the Silverthorn Exit at mile marker 205.
Troopers say that drivers should expect a lengthy closure.
