Kangaroo wreaks havoc after jumping in front of liquor-hauling semi truck

Published:

Pallets of alcohol were spilled across a highway in Australia on Monday, all because of a careless kangaroo.

The incident involving a semi truck occurred on November 2nd in New South Wales, Australia.

According to Forbes Advocate, the big rig was hauling a load of liquor along Newell Highway at Tomingley when a kangaroo suddenly hopped onto the roadway.

The unnamed truck driver then swerved to avoid hitting the animal, causing the semi truck to lose and spill eight pallets of packaged liquor across the highway.

Luckily, the truck driver was not injured in the incident, but is not clear whether the kangaroo escaped the scene unhurt.

Clean-up crews spent three hours clearing the alcohol debris from the roadway.

Local police say that, while unfortunate, run-ins with kangaroos on the highway are not an uncommon thing, especially in recent months.

“We have noticed a recent increase in kangaroos on the roads around Narromine shire, mostly at night,” said Narromine Police Sergeant Michael Smith.

“While it often comes down to making a split second decision, drivers need to be aware that taking evasive action can at times lead to an outcome that is worse than a collision,” he added.
