As an intense tropical storm bears down on the eastern seaboard, transportation authorities in New York have issued a ban for some trucks on NY Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bridges.
From noon on Tuesday, August 4 through midnight, tandem trailers and empty tractor trailers will be banned from all MTA bridges, according to a news release from the office of Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Bridges operated by the MTA include the Bronx-Whitestone, Cross Bay Veterans Memorial, Henry Hudson, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial, Throgs Neck, Robert F. Kennedy and Verrazzano-Narrows bridge. Trucks are never allowed on the Henry Hudson bridge.
Tropical Storm Isaias caused hurricane-like conditions in North Carolina on Tuesday and could reach as far north as southern New England by Tuesday afternoon, bringing with it heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 70 m.p.h.
