One dead following Nebraska trooper’s pursuit of stolen semi

Published:

One person died in a crash involving a stolen semi truck in Nebraska on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. near Lincoln.

The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) says that they received a report about a stolen semi truck traveling east on Van Dorn St. near Lincoln.

A trooper spotted the semi in question and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and fled at speeds up to 80 m.p.h. on the rural road.

As the truck reached the intersection of 148th and Van Dorn St., police say that it failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with another semi truck.

The trooper called for medical help, but the driver of the stolen truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi truck that was struck was not hurt.

Troopers are asking the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office to spearhead the investigation.
