One dead in early morning crash involving construction vehicles in North Carolina

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol says that one person has died as a result of a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi truck and construction vehicles.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on Monday, September 28, on I-77 in the Huntersville, North Carolina area.

According to the Huntersville Fire Department, a tractor trailer traveling south on the interstate struck multiple construction vehicles.

Initial reports indicated that there were no injuries. However, new reports say that two people were taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries. North Carolina troopers said that the person with serious injuries later died, according to reporting from local news outlet WSOCTV.

The crash shut down a portion of I-77 southbound for several hours, but all lanes have reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
