Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal head-on crash that shut down a major interstate on Sunday evening.
The crash occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, on southbound I-69 in Tekonsha Township, Michigan.
Troopers say that 44 year old Shannon Lee Risner drove a sedan north in the southbound lanes of I-69 and caused a head-on collision with a southbound semi truck.
Both vehicles were engulfed in flames following the collision.
Risner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Illinois-based truck driver Anthony Washington was not injured in the crash.
Southbound I-69 was closed for hours for cleanup and investigation.
Troopers say that their early investigation suggests that Risner was “despondent” and that the crash may have been “intentional.”
