Police say they suspect murder/suicide after couple found dead in flaming semi

Mississippi police have offered new insight into the case of a husband and wife found deceased inside of a burned semi truck on Sunday morning.

The bodies of 45 year old Ronald Merritt and 42 year old Carisa Merritt were found around 7 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, in Church Hill, Mississippi.

Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey said that a man was on his way to go hunting on Sunday morning when he spotted a blue semi truck on property where he planned to hunt.

The hunter said that he honked his horn and the semi moved further down the road.

The hunter said that he heard gunshots and an explosion around 7 a.m.

The hunter then called 911 after seeing the semi truck on fire with the couple’s bodies still inside.

Local news outlet WLBT reports that police suspect that the incident was a murder/suicide.

Other details released by police include the fact that the couple left both of their cellphones at home in Fayette.

Police also revealed that Ronald Merritt had recently leased the truck that he and his wife were found in.

The incident remains under investigation.
