Police say truck driver fled after U-turn led to double fatality crash

Published:

New York State Police are looking for a truck driver who they say fled the scene of a fatal crash on Friday morning.

The crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. on Friday, September 4, on westbound I-90 (New York State Thruway) in Wheatland, New York.

State police say that a semi truck attempted to make a U-turn across the westbound lanes of I-90 near mile marker 375.

A car also heading west on I-90 crashed under the turning truck. Local news outlet WHAM reports that the roof of the car was sheared off by the crash.

Both the driver and the passenger in the car died as a result of the crash.

Troopers say that the truck driver left the scene of the crash, making another U-turn into the eastbound lanes of the Thruway. The truck pulled off at Exit 46 and pulled into a Doubletree Hotel parking lot in Henrietta, then drove away.

The truck is described as a yellow Volvo pulling a trailer with significant damage to the drivers side.

If you have information, you’re asked to call New York State Police at (518) 436-2825.
