Resident complaints lead to $2,400 increase in truck fines

Truck drivers venturing off designated truck routes in Crawfordsville, Indiana could now face a fine of $2,500 for the transgression.

The Crawfordsville City Council voted 5-1 Monday, September 14th to increase the penalty for truck drivers who stray from the marked routes, raising the fine from $100 to $2,500.

The raise was initiated after residents on the city’s west side complained about damage to their yards caused by semi trucks turning around on residential streets, reported the Journal Review

According to the ordinance, police will have the discretion to decide when to cite a driver.

Council members say that the “strong punishment” might encourage truck drivers to stick to the marked roads.
